Our Current Sermon Series
Has it ever occurred to you that our seemingly pedestrian, uneventful everyday lives are completely captivating to angelic beings in the heavenly realms?
1 Peter 1:12 says that belief in the gospel and the behaviour that it produces in the life of the Christian are “things into which angels long to look”.
Think about that for a moment. Right now, angels are leaning forward, sitting on the edge of their celestial seats, utterly fascinated by what’s happening to you. The same angels who rejoice when individual sinners repent of sin (Luke 15:10) are also peering down through the windows of heaven with riveting intensity as these saved sinners live sanctified lives for God’s glory.
- Angels long to look at people who love Jesus even though they haven’t yet seen Him (1 Peter 1:8)
- Angels long to look at a community that puts away selfishness in order to be built together as living stones to make a temple for the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 2:1-5)
- Angels long to look at women with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit and men who know how treat women with honour (1 Peter 3:1-7).
- Angels long to look at God exalting people who have humbled themselves under His mighty hand (1 Peter 4:6)
In this study of the book of 1st Peter, we will be digging into this letter to better appreciate God’s good purpose for us in our daily struggles against sin and suffering as we humbly depend on the Lord as we live out the gospel in a world that is increasingly hostile towards Christianity. These are the “things into which angels long to look”.
